Wash, Rinse, Repeat

After tending to the garden this morning, I sat on the front steps and contemplated life as I’m prone to do, while watching the cute little snail who showed up again near the water faucet.

He (or she – I shouldn’t assume since that is practically a felony these days lol) went about their life without a care in the world and honestly? I was a bit jealous.

I wish I had no cares in the world.

Right now I’m being doubly careful to wash the fresh food I’m harvesting each day for our personal consumption. Between the dirt, insect goo, smoke and the thick, rain-making tic-tac-toe lines in the sky depositing who-knows-what onto my garden, I’m not taking any chances! I grow my food to keep my mast cells from angrily rebelling, not to trip their triggers. 😄

This morning I harvested a few more strawberries to go with my breakfast, some lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini and carrots for a salad at lunch and zucchini, rosemary and basil for dinner.

Hopefully for the next few weeks I’ll be eating close to 100% only the food we grow. My ultimate goal is to grow enough food to last an entire year but it’s easier said than done! In the meantime, I am pretty happy with the progress we’re making toward that goal.

I’m happy in general with the progress in the garden, too! These sunflowers make everything seem so cheery…

Of course with my situation I can never hope to be a full-fledged homesteader with acres and acres of land to till anyway but I am one of many out here who are doing what they can, where they can, how they can, while they still can.

I am, as they say, blooming where I’ve been planted.

Or trying to, at least. 🙂
