The chickens were out while we were oiling and setting up the hives yesterday, strutting around in their pasture and enjoying all the spring foraging…

The roosters are especially feeling their oats…

We haven’t found the right spot yet for the pollinator box but our new Flow hive has its own platform. Now we’re playing with adding fencing and flower beds around it while still giving plenty of space between the plants and the hive in order to keep the ants and other pests out. We’ll add some container plants up near it eventually.

We may end up planting some lilacs or roses on either side of the platform. I’m so in love with the Knock Out roses already, so adding a few more to the property wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit! I’m collecting one of each color now and hoping to add more. They are incredibly beautiful.

In the meantime, there’s plenty of wild flowers blooming right now for the bees. 🐝🌷🌼
