Adventures in Gardening: We Win Some…

And we lose some. Despite my efforts, I killed every last one of them in my failed greenhouse experiment. I didn’t want to risk the other seedlings so I had brought them all back in, leaving just the pumpkins and the cold-hardy roses. All the pumpkins died.

The poor roses also took a hit! I think they’ll survive, though…

Just in case they don’t, I ordered three more in the same colors. That way if I lose these, no big deal. If I don’t, I’ll have six new rose bushes to put out when it’s time.

So now my little dining room is once again a make-shift greenhouse, which is making the pups crazy because some of them (I’m not naming names) love to nibble on plants of all kinds!

Which means I have at least one or two who just can’t be trusted at all and have to be watched like the toddlers that they are.

They are just lucky they’re so dang cute! 😄

Speaking of cute, my little basil is doing so well and while I’m tempted to start harvesting fresh leaves for cooking, it’s really hard to want to pilfer from it just yet…

I still have TONS of dried herbs from last year’s harvest, including basil, but there’s nothing quite like fresh, is there.

By the time it’s warm enough to put everything back out in the greenhouse, I should be able to start harvesting not just the basil but the thyme, oregano and maybe even some of the lettuce.

It’s still a month or more until our last frost date and that’s probably when I’ll feel comfortable attempting to put them back out there. The small heater I have just isn’t a match for Idaho’s bitter overnight temps, I’m afraid. 🥶
