Buzzing Right Along

The bees have been forced inside for most of the last few days by the weather, but it gave them a chance to get settled into the new hive and set up house. Which they did right away, including assigning undertakers to fly the dead ones off and guards to monitor the entrance. It’s so fun to watch them do their thing!

We’re finally going to be able to get out there and do some spring cleaning ourselves after being shut out by cold and rain and wind and misery for the last few days. The weekend is upon us, though, and with the warm weather we should be able to finally get some transplanting done.

Starting with the Jerusalem artichokes and these gorgeous Knock Out roses…

The bees are just going to love them. The beds are almost ready, with a little help from the chickens who have been let out to join in with the spring prepping…

We like their “help” when it comes to softening up the ground and fertilizing it as we get all the garden areas ready.

They’re pretty fearless though, which makes it a bit dangerous to just let them roam so freely…

We haven’t lost any to the dogs in years but it did happen once when one flew up over the fence and right down into the lion’s den. I honestly couldn’t believe it and it seemed a very suicidal thing to do (can chickens even be suicidal?).

I’m sure the pups were in disbelief for a moment as well and I think Odie still has a battle scar from that day if I’m not mistaken. 😂
