Adventures in Gardening: Indoor Gardening in Winter – Part One

Okay so technically I haven’t started gardening indoors for winter just yet but that’s because I haven’t received my new AeroGarden Harvest Elite indoor gardening hydroponic system, but I did order it and it is on the way. Of course I’m super excited and I wanted to start a series of posts to document how it goes with this little indoor growing machine from the very beginning of my journey.

Why did I pick the AeroGarden?

Actually it kind of found me through an ad somewhere, and I bookmarked it ages ago meaning to get one to try but never did. Then I decided to order one as a late Christmas present to myself, well, to us since we’ll be eating what I hopefully grow in it, and then I thought why not share my experience here since that’s what this blog is all about!

Indoor gardening seems like a perfect way to keep bringing in fresh, organic food all year long and with such a long winter ahead we are looking at late July to mid August before we really start being able to harvest anything from outside again. What we did grow and save last season will be long gone by then, no doubt. That’s a long time to wait for more fresh garden goodness! So I wanted to be able to grow some things like lettuce and herbs inside for starters and then we may expand and get another AeroGarden to grow some cherry tomatoes in, too, if it works out for us.

What I really like about this brand is the reviews are good and they seem to have a quality product not to mention plenty of accessories and options for growing just about everything from herbs to veggies to flowers (!) right inside your own kitchen. Or in my case, the dining room. I am pretty sure it’s going in there but we’ll see.

Anyway, I’d love to hear if you have any experience with one of these indoor hydroponic systems and I’ll be updating once a week or so on how it goes with mine. Or, if you’re curious and maybe want to get one yourself you may want to watch and see how we do here with ours before you jump into indoor gardening with this particular model.

Either way, this should be a fun new adventure!
