And We Gave Thanks

I hope everyone who celebrates it had a great Thanksgiving!

Our little family gathered and spent all day together, cooking and laughing and giving thanks for the bounty we shared. I did most of the cooking while the hubs kept busy doing DIY.

Rather than a traditional turkey this year I roasted up three fat pheasants…

We also had a nice, juicy beef roast I’d been saving. We cooked both with our home grown potatoes, rosemary, carrots and onions.

We had green bean casserole, candied yams, stuffing, fresh bread, steamed brussel sprouts, cranberries, olives and everything just came out really, really yummy.

We topped it off with some home made hot chocolate with Kahlua and Baileys Irish Cream, mini pumpkin pies and a lemon meringue pie I made from scratch…

The hubs helped me put together and add this awesome little produce cart/rack to the kitchen which sure came in handy.

I was going to use it in the root cellar under the stairs but decided to keep it for myself upstairs instead.

While I stayed busy baking pies and crafting our delicious holiday meal, the hubs tackled the chair railing and the baseboard we’ve slowly been replacing around the whole house.

He also added the cast iron scroll work to the under side of the kitchen island’s granite countertop.

It looks beautiful and now we just need to finish painting the kitchen and upstairs living room before we tackle the ceiling.

A couple weeks ago I sanded and painted the balcony railing myself, which is a huge deal since I haven’t been able to do anything like that in a few years. I wore my safety gear to keep the fumes out and took my time and it came out really well. I love the white instead of the old oak color and now all I have left is to either sand and paint the hand rails or replace them with wrought iron ones.

We set our Christmas tree up and did most of the decorating once the food was put away and the dishes were done. Mostly just the inside stuff as we’re still gathering everything four our outdoor display.

After going all out for Halloween I think we’re going to do the same for Christmas. 😊

We’ll see…
