At the End of the Day

Can you guys believe we are just two weeks from fall now? I don’t know about you but I don’t think I’ve been so anxious for summer to end in my entire life! Yet here we are and the signs of autumn are starting to already show…

Last night, or rather last evening, I was able to harvest a few of the sugar pumpkins and one of the mini whites just as the sun was setting…

There were more I probably could have grabbed but I kept getting distracted by the gorgeous sunset!

Then I found this amazing looking weed (?!) growing in the pumpkin patch near the corn and that drew my attention away for a bit…

I’ve never seen one of these before and there weren’t any others like it that I could find so it was kind of a mystery!

While I was back there I meant to check the corn to see if it was ready since the wasps and bees were bedded down making it safe for me to do that, but I ran out of daylight and headed back in with my pumpkins and a few more apples I was able to grab on the way instead.

By the time I headed out this morning the stinging things were already up and about, doing their thing, so I didn’t get a chance to do any more harvesting or check if the corn is ready…

At the end of the day, I am just so happy to have a harvest at all. So many of my fellow gardeners really struggled this year with growing anything and I feel lucky that we only had minimal losses overall.

The worst of which was to the hungry wasps gobbling up my apples! πŸ˜„

Speaking of those, I am trying to think of what to do with them rather than more apple pies. I think I’ll try making an apple cobbler or apple crisp instead. I’ve never made either but both sound delicious and I have enough to try making one of each.

I would ask the hubs but at the end of the day he doesn’t really care what form my homemade dessert comes in.

He’s pretty easy to please, thank goodness!
