Something Wicked This Way Comes…

Halloween is my favorite holiday of them all so we go all out every year and with it being just around the corner we are already getting into the spirit here at our little homestead.

Yes, I know it’s a bit soon but we have a lot of work to do! We were “that house” on the block last year and our place was so popular that this year we’re expanding and plan to make a lot of our own props to go with the pre made ones we’ve bought.

Last year I did a few upgrades to some of my decor, like adding fancy bows and ribbons to my door wreath…

And also to this cute little animated raven in a cage that we found at Home Depot…

This year we’re adding some more animatronics and we’re also going to be taking things up a notch with some hologram projectors and other special effects which I’m super excited about!

I wanted to keep it not-too-scary and more little kid friendly since we have a LOT of younger trick-or-treaters so I went with the Boo Crew by AtmosFX for our holograms.

I don’t want to traumatize the little kids, so these seem to be a good alternative to some of their more scary options.

We’re doing a haunted country manor and cemetery theme, which is perfect because we can incorporate some of the old antiques and yard art we already have as well as use the dead pumpkin vines, sunflowers and corn stalks to decorate with.

Our goal for this year is to make a few bigger DIY tombstones and maybe a crypt and cemetery arch with fencing for the front, but we’ll see. There may not be enough time for all of it!

I also want to make this awesome chicken wire ghost girl…

So I am gathering everything I need to get her done and I’ll update here as I go. We’re also going to be touring some of our local Halloween haunted attractions (we actually have some good ones nearby!) and I’ll post about them, too.

Hopefully at least one or two of my readers appreciates Halloween as much as I do! If not, what the heck is wrong with you?!!

Just kidding, of course.

Sort of.

I mean, who doesn’t love Halloween?! πŸŽƒ

  1. I love Halloween too! I don’t dress up anymore, except I usually throw on a pair of ears and a tail (the cat one or the raccoon one.) One year when my son was maybe 3 or 4 it was really cold. He had a padded muscle costume to help keep him warm and I threw my fuzzy bathrobe over my coat and went as a “Tired mom” with a thermos cup of hot coffee. The adults thought it was funny. I get cold easy, and we live in the Northwest, so I’m going to go with anything warm and comfortable. Even in my 20’s I can’t say I was particularly interested in super sexy, skimpy costumes. I want to have fun, not worry about “the girls” falling out or something. I look forward to seeing more of your Halloween displays for this year!

    1. Oh, that costume sounds great. I’m the same way, and I blushed taking my kids to the Halloween store when they were young because it seems that ALL the women’s costumes are (for lack of a better word) slutty. I hate that! I was born in the wrong era though… maybe the wrong century! πŸ˜„
