While today is traditionally the day where Americans give respect for the soldiers who died in battle defending our flag and our freedoms, most of us seem to just treat it as another holiday and enjoy the three day weekend.
Here at our little homestead, we do both. We’ll be visiting the local cemeteries this afternoon (rain or not) and paying our respects and we’re also enjoying an extra day of rest (thanks to the rain).
Honestly? It’s so nice to not have to go out and water and weed everything! π
I did do a quick check on the greenhouse while I was out feeding the chickens and thankfully all was well. I’m leaving the door closed because it’s quite blustery out so I was a bit worried it was getting too warm in there.

It was in the high 70s and the humidity is making all the plants in there very, very happy. The dahlias are thriving and the zinnias I planted are all popping up in their cute new planters…

My little matching bird house arrived in the mail on Saturday but I haven’t been able to put it outside because of the rain and wind…

The lilacs are totally loving the rain and are bursting with blooms.

I was surprised at how big the hostas are getting out front. I noticed immediately that they’ve practically doubled in size as I came back inside through the garage…

I’ve actually never seen them get such big leaves so quickly!
And I was even more surprised when I came back in to find the hubs getting his Irish heritage days outfit ready…

It must be my own Irish blood but there’s just something about a man in a kilt that does it for me, especially when it’s my man! π
As a minor addition to your intro, today we also give respect to the soldiers who lived through those battles but are now no longer with us.

Yes of course but Memorial Day was set aside specifically to honor those who died in service to our country while Veteran’s Day is for all service members. Still, we should honor them all every day!

Your flowers look beautiful! That’s too funny that you came back in to find your husband in a kilt. π My dad has almost that exact same kilt!

Ha! That’s awesome. I am so looking forward to going to the Irish festival. It’s our first year dressing up for it.
