Our last frost date, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac at least, is just ten days away now. It’s probably not something that 80% of the population out there thinks twice about, but for those of us who garden it’s a pretty significant date.
It means I’ll be able to start clearing out my dining room from all these seedlings!

Yesterday I sowed tons of wildflower seeds into the chicken’s pasture towards the back…

I also decided to experiment with the wheat and tossed a few handfuls of it out as well. Then I threw out some of my wild bird seed just to top it off. Everything else we planted last year for them seems to be coming back in on its own really nicely so these will just bulk it out. I covered it all in a thin layer of dirt, hoping that keeps the birds from raiding it.
I’m starting the Siberian pea tree seeds today so hopefully we’ll get those planted in a few weeks out there for them, too. ๐
I was a bit distracted when I was out there because our neighbors behind us got a new horse…

The two of them were running and playing and having a good ole time, which made me so happy. The darker horse has been alone the last year or so and I hate to see that, knowing what pack animals they are. Just like our huskies they do so much better when they have a buddy or two (or twelve lol).
I also noticed the red winged black birds are back, a sure sign of spring and summer are here…

Hopefully they won’t dig up the wheat and wildflower seeds I tossed out! ๐คจ
I had a dream last night that I woke up to the garden covered in a foot of snow, all my tomato plants buried, green tomatoes and all. Instead I wake up and check the forecast and see it will be 95 this weekend! So much for spring and any notion that I might have accurate dream premonitions! ๐

Agreed! I cringe to think of the poor broccoli and beets.
