Yesterday I decided to start building a proper bird feeding station over by the lilacs after months of having this little window box feeder. It works pretty well and both feeds the sparrows, finches and chickadees and provides me with hours of entertainment each day!

It’s just that there are too many birds coming to it now, which isn’t a bad thing at all!

As you know by now, I do so love my birds both wild and domestic, and I already miss all the other winged things that are here during the warm months.

I miss the bees…

And the butterflies…

And the lady bugs…

And even the pretty green flies (I forget their names)…

Not the regular house flies so much though. And definitely not the murder hornets!

I know they’re not technically murder hornets but I call them all that because I am deathly allergic to wasps and hornets. I just know someday they will be the death of me, which is fine, at least I’ll die surrounded by my beautiful flowers.

And I know they’ll be back in a couple of months so I want as many birds on the property as I can get to help keep them under control. Of course then the hawks show up to keep the bird population in check, but that’s just mother nature doing her job!

They were out there again yesterday hunting…

Anyway, my feeding station at the moment only consists of the bird feeder that used to be up on the high pole outside the window which was blown down in the last bad windstorm.

It’s in a good place to provide the little birds with shelter from the hawks in the lilacs, though and they do seem to like it already.

I plan to expand with more feeders, some bird houses and maybe even a bird bath in that area but most of that will have to wait until the spring.

Still, it’s never to early to start planning! Spring will be here before we know it. 😊
